A middle aged man was brought by his son to our medical camp. He had a severe and painful skin infection in his feet that was only getting worse as he was unable to pay for treatment at a clinic. Thankfully the care offered at our medical camps is completely free! Doctors at the camp immediately treated him and referred him for admission at a local hospital for two weeks of continued treatment. The doctors at that hospital affirmed the decisions made at the medical camp and continued that same regimen. Ten days later, the Kolkata City Mission team checked up on him. The moment they arrived at his hut, he broke into tears saying, “I have received a new life because of the treatment that I received from you just in time!” He was completely restored.
A woman from one of the slum communities had been suffering for a while with a tumor on her forehead. She consulted several doctors to remove it, but a minor operation at those hospitals would cost far more than she could afford. She was very anxious and worried when she came to our medical camp. The camp doctor attending her asked if she wanted to go forth with the surgery to remove the tumor. She was hesitant and said, “I don't have any money to pay for surgery if you do it." The medical team told her they would do the procedure free of cost. She was amazed and immediately brought her family to the clinic to support her while the surgery was taking place. The doctors successfully removed the tumor from her forehead and she walked back home filled with joy. A few days later the follow-up team came to her home, and she had no words to express her thanks for conducting this medical camp and said, “More than anybody else, I have benefited from the medical camp!”
