This project will provide quality medical attention in a 90-bed residence to low-income people living in rural areas of the State of Mexico, Mexico. Most patients are chronically-ill patients confined to bed and terminally-ill patients whose families do not have the means to take care of them. Project funds will be used to pay for specialised equipment, medicines, healing material and trained personnel who takes care of the patients.
In Mexico, there is an insufficient and inadequate coverage of health services for the low-income population in general, and in particular for low-income patients who have chronic illnesses and are bedridden and for terminally-ill patients. The strategies to broaden the existing government health programs such as the Seguro Popular and other state programs, have focused on providing more medical services. However, this growth still has not reached chronically-ill and terminally-ill patients.
The beneficiaries of the in-house residence are poor chronically ill persons confined to bed and terminally ill patients without access to the public health system and who cannot be taken care for by their families; these patients come from many States in Mexico. With the project, the institution will be able to provide every year, specialized medical care to more poor and marginalized people. The Institution also provides ambulatory medical services to low-income people from rural areas.
The project will provide medical consultations (ambulatory care) to 6,500 poor people in rural areas without access to medical services. It will also provide palliative care, medical care, treatment and medicines in a 90-bed residence, to 99 low-income patients per year (chronically or terminally ill).
