Feeding Children, Fueling Futures: Why School Meals Matter
Project Report | October 2026

Hunger Should Never Stand Between a Child and Education
For 1,850 underprivileged students attending NUR Foundation Schools in Lahore's peri-urban communities, access to nutritious food remains an important part of their educational journey.
Pakistan continues to face serious nutritional challenges. According to UNICEF and Pakistan's National Nutrition Survey (2018), approximately 40.2% of children under five experienced stunted growth, demonstrating the scale of childhood malnutrition in the country.
What Research Tells Us About School Meals
A 2021 systematic review and meta-analysis published in the Journal of Global Health examined school feeding programmes in low- and middle-income countries. Researchers found that school meals were associated with an average 2.6 percentage-point increase in school attendance, alongside measurable improvements in children's growth.
The World Food Programme's State of School Feeding Worldwide 2024, published in September 2025, reports that at least 466 million children worldwide receive school meals, reflecting growing international recognition of school nutrition as an investment in education and child development.
Our Commitment: From Weekly to Daily Nutrition
Through the NUR Food Bank, NUR Foundation provides weekly meals to students across its community school network, complementing access to free education, books, and uniforms.
Our ambition remains to increase meal frequency and ultimately provide every student with a nutritious meal each school day. Sustained donor support is essential to making this possible.

Help Us Nourish the Next Generation
A school meal cannot solve poverty alone. But it can help remove one immediate barrier to learning while easing the financial pressure on vulnerable families.
Your continued support can help NUR Foundation strengthen its school nutrition programme and move closer to providing daily meals for every student.
