Because Hunger Cannot Wait: Restoring Hope Through Emergency Food Support
Sobhujan, a 72-year-old differently-abled woman, lives in extreme poverty and isolation. Once sharing her life with her only son, she now faces each day completely alone following his untimely death after a prolonged battle with diabetes. With no regular source of income, no family support, and limited physical mobility, every day is a struggle for survival. Unable to work because of her disability, she is often forced to depend on begging just to secure a meal.
As her age and disability make it impossible to earn a livelihood, access to regular food has become one of her greatest challenges. There are many days when she is uncertain where her next meal will come from. The burden of loneliness, coupled with hunger and poverty, has left her among the most vulnerable members of the community.
Recognizing the urgency of her situation, Tiljala Society for Human and Educational Development (Tiljala SHED) extended emergency dry food ration support to help address her immediate nutritional needs. This timely intervention ensured that she had access to essential food during a period of severe hardship. More than just providing meals, the emergency food support restored a sense of security and reminded her that she was not forgotten. For someone living alone with no dependable support system, this assistance became a vital lifeline.
While the emergency food assistance has brought immediate relief, Sobhujan's challenges remain significant. Her advanced age, physical disability, lack of a sustainable income, and absence of family support continue to place her at constant risk of hunger and neglect. She requires ongoing humanitarian assistance, regular access to nutritious food, medical care, and support in accessing government social security schemes so that she can live with dignity and security.
Sobhujan's story is a powerful reminder that hunger is not merely the absence of food—it is the absence of security, dignity, and hope. Through the generosity of compassionate donors, Tiljala SHED has been able to stand beside her during one of the most difficult periods of her life. Continued support for our Emergency Food Programme will enable us to reach many more elderly, differently-abled, and destitute individuals like Sobhujan, ensuring that no one is left to face hunger alone. Every contribution helps transform despair into hope and gives vulnerable lives a renewed chance to live with dignity.
