While the Fraser First Booster Club awaits grant decisions, McKinley Barrier-Free Park has once again been noticed and praised. SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments) has used McKinley Barrier-Free Park in their Parks & Recreation Plan for the state. This park is one of a kind and the Fraser First Booster Club is working tirelessly to finish Phase 3.
We have applied for grants for the sensory garden, climbers, labrynth, and barrier-free exercise equipment. If awarded these grants, the park will be even more one-of-a-kind than it already is.
Now that summer is here, the park is full of families using it. Whether it be the Walk & Roll Path, the new swings, the sandpit, or playscapes, it is busy day and night. In April, a group of volunteers came out to do a spring cleanup of the park. While that park cleanup was put on by the city's parks and recreation department, residents are always helping keep the park clean every day. Since it was and still is a fundraised park, residents have a feeling of ownership and pride in it.
We are always so grateful for our donors and volunteers! Big things are still to come. Keep an eye out for more from the McKinley Barrier-Free Park!
