Thank you so much for supporting our Mayon Volcano Eruption Emergency response!
Over 5,000 families or 20,000 individuals residing within the 7-km danger zone have been evacuated since the Mayon Volcano started showing signs of unrest on the 8th of June. Save the Children’s response team went to Albay to assess and address the needs of the affected children and their families. Children who were interviewed expressed discomfort due to congestion in evacuation center. Food and water supplies were found sufficient but local authorities projected that these might be depleted should the situation prolong beyond 30 days. The Department of Education reported 45 schools are affected and since most evacuation centers are also schools, more learners were displaced.
Through your support which we combined with our other donors, we have been able to:
* Train volunteers who supported the facilitation of psycho-social support sessions for children that were affected by the Mayon eruption
* Provided 389 children with psycho social support through art relief, including those who were in evacuation center
* Provided 310 school children with back-to-school kits and distributed 50 teaching kits to the local schools.
* Provided multi-purpose cash assistance to 182 households to support vegetable farming and twine and handicraft making.
