Thank you! Your support of the Global Links' Maternal and Infant Health program in Nicaragua is making a world of difference for women and their newborns.
Phase 1 of our work in rural areas along the canal route is complete. Working with Nicaragua's Ministry of Health, 19 health instructions (clinics, maternal homes, and health posts) in 4 SILAIS (zones) were equipped with medical materials and furnishings by Global Links. Five maternal homes were outfitted with complete exam rooms, and nine institutions received computers for tracking health data. In all, 21 computers were provided for this phase through our partnership with Computer Reach.
In total, 9 shipments (40-foot sea freight containers) were completed in 2015 to support Phase 1, and two assessment trips were made by Global Links' Program Officer, Karina Zelaya.
From everyday supplies such as gauze, gloves, IV tubes, and syringes, to complete exam rooms including OB/GYN exam tables, lights, supply carts, IV poles, and waste receptacles, your support has helped Global Links deliver the tools necessary for quality pre and post natal care in this focus area.
Phase 2 of the project will begin in 2016 and take place in Nicaragua's dry corridor which will include an additional 67 maternal homes and 26 health institutions.
In January of 2016, the maternal homes will begin to receive the nutritional meals that we delivered through our partner, Stop Hunger Now. With two additional food shipments later in 2016, each maternal home in the country can feed 2 nutritious meals per day to 28,287 pregnant woman.
Please take a moment to review the photos and videos from Karina's most recent trip. Look for the silver Global Links stickers on the all the donated material... chairs, beds, cabinets, equipment... and know that those items are there because of your generosity.
You can be proud of how much your support and helped us accomplish. But there is still much work to do. With so many more maternal homes in need of help in Phase 2, we ask that you consider another gift today. With your continued support we can move toward the next phase with confidence.
Muchas gracias!
