7th Update on Securing the Future of Mastic Gum Trees in Greece

By Erica Lympousi | Development Manager

During this reporting period, the project reached an important milestone with its successful completion and the presentation of its results at the final dissemination event, held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Chios Mastic Museum.

The event brought together more than 120 participants, including institutional representatives, scientists, researchers, and mastic producers. Under the title "The First Knowledge and Innovation Transfer Network in Greece," the event showcased the project's achievements and highlighted the value of establishing a pioneering producer-to-producer knowledge transfer network within the mastic cultivation sector—an initiative that now serves as a promising model for Greek agriculture.

Throughout the event, speakers emphasized the importance of collaboration, participatory approaches, and the exchange of practical experience among producers and experts. These elements proved fundamental to the project's success and demonstrated how knowledge transfer can strengthen the resilience and long-term sustainability of mastic cultivation.

The project's key outcomes, lessons learned, and future opportunities for the sector were also presented. Particular attention was given to the role of technical knowledge and innovation in supporting mastic producers, while representatives of New Agriculture New Generation shared the project's impact and its potential to inspire similar initiatives across Greece.

Following the completion of the program, an evaluation survey was distributed to all 300 beneficiaries to gather valuable feedback, assess the program's effectiveness, and identify priorities for future initiatives.

One of the strongest messages that emerged from both participants and local stakeholders was the clear need to continue this effort. Building on this momentum, we are already designing the next phase of the initiative in Chios, with the ambition of launching a new program in autumn 2026, provided the necessary resources are secured.

Your support can help make this next chapter a reality. By contributing through this platform, you are investing in the future of one of Greece's most unique and internationally recognized agricultural products. Together, we can continue empowering mastic producers, strengthening local communities, and ensuring that the knowledge, traditions, and innovation surrounding Chios mastic continue to flourish for generations to come.

Thank you for standing with us and helping safeguard the future of this remarkable national treasure!
