No child should have to learn under the hot sun. This project will build community primary schools for poor rural children in Uganda and Nigeria. The new school will consist of 12 classrooms, computer lab, library, kitchen, dining room, restroom, an office space, school garden and playground. 1 in 5 poor rural children between the ages of 5 and 15 are either not enrolled in school or are on the street begging for food/money. These children in Nigeria and Uganda only have access to the state school system, which in most instances is under-resourced, overcrowded, high teacher absenteeism, and teachers who struggle to understand the curriculum. Due to overcrowding classrooms, students are sent outside in the hot sun where they continue to learn.
ISK will provide free education for over 500 students and also provide them with free learning materials, free school uniform and a daily nutritious hot meal that would ease the financial burden on their parents. Through the concept of small classes and individualized learning, students from disadvantaged backgrounds will benefit from a high quality education and a healthy safe environment.
The community school building project will provide education to over 500 Nigeria and Uganda children and will help reduce the illiteracy level of the village children to break the circle of poverty. This project will give the children a safe and secure environment to learn and thrive.
