HOT finalized development of the Nós no Mapa field mapping tool that community members will use to collect information about their assets and vulnerabilities and delivered it to the Brazilian National Secretariat for Peripheries. We also trained ministry officials to use the tool.
In September 2025, HOT helped to train 17 community members on open mapping, including how to use the Nós no Mapa tool and how to classify assets and vulnerabilities. Assets could include things such as green spaces, water access points, and safe community spaces. Vulnerabilities are things such as broken soccer goal posts on a playing field or locations that are subject to flooding or criminal activity. Communities in Recife and El Salvador have already begun using the tool to collect information.
Additional funding for this project will allow us to make additional technical improvements to improve the tool’s functioning.
