We are starting construction in Tunas Pampa, Aiquile!
We work closely with local and municipal governments on all of our projects. The communities in which we build infrastructure help provide financial and laborial support. In October, bloqueos (strikes that cause road blockages) made meeting with the leaders of the Aiquile and Tunas Pampa governments impossible and momentarily stalled the project. Despite this rough start, we are excited to report that we have now reached an agreement with these governments. Construction for the education project begins in January!
We are continuing our fundraising efforts!
We have currently raised $13,068 towards our $25,000 goal for the completion of the classrooms, teacher housing, and new bathrooms. We are still campaigning through GlobalGiving and discussing the possibility of financial partnership with various NGO's.
We will be able to commence construction through the generosity of individual donors and coordinated events throughout the United States and Bolivia. We, and the children of Tunas Pampa, are so grateful for all the assistance we have received.
Some highlights of our campaign included a belly dance class in New York City. Long-time Mano a Mano Bolivia volunteer Peter Tanghe helped coordinate the event. Mia, the teacher, donated 100% of the earnings from the class to Tunas Pampa.
Abigail Bates, before arriving to volunteer in Cochabamba, hosted a party in her home and asked guests to donate to the campaign, which brought in $700.
A bar in Rutland, Vermont hosted a special event featuring a live band to draw donations for the Tunas Pampa project. Former Mano a Mano Bolivia volunteer Jesse Wilson coordinated this event in her hometown while working in the Cochabamba office, which drew $1,018.
In the #ParlanaSolidaria campaign, we partnered with Parlana, a Bolivian language exchange that hosts weekly parties in the Bolivian cities of Cochabamba, La Paz, Sucre, and Santa Cruz. Hundreds of people attend the language exchanges each week, and we raffled prizes to attract donations to the Tunas Pampa project. The campaign lasted for one month, and Parlana founder Jody Cash has decided to continue hosting events with other NGO's in Bolivia as a result of the success of the Mano a Mano Bolivia campaign.
