Inauguration Ceremony
By Alyssa Chase, MPH | Manager of Crowdfunding Campaign
On August 15, 2016, Mano a Mano Bolivia inaugurated its school project in Tunas Pampa. The children were overjoyed to see their new, equipped classrooms, and happy to finally have access to clean bathrooms with running water. The community expressed their gratitude and the authorities, who had collaborated with Mano a Mano Bolivia, expressed their interest in working together on future projects.
The children performed traditional dances and gave small gifts to the Mano a Mano Bolivia representatives. Mano a Mano Bolivia also brought chocolate, sweets, and emapanadas to share with the students.
Please see our video of the inauguration ceremony and project summary. Our sincerest thanks again for your support!

Seismic-Design Expert Reviews School Blueprints and Construction Begins
By Alyssa Chase, MPH | Manager of Crowdfunding Campaign
We are very excited to announce that construction has begun in Tunas Pampa! The attached form provides details and photos of the work so far in English and in Spanish.
In addition, Mano a Mano Bolivia has partnered with Kaminski Associates, a London-based civil engineering consulting firm. We hope that this partnership will ensure that the Tunas Pampa education construction project is as earthquake-resilient as possible.
Sebastian Kaminski, the founder of Kaminski Associates and separately a Senior Structural Engineer at Arup, volunteered his time to review the education project's blueprints. Mr. Kaminski specializes in designing earthquake-resilient buildings, and has worked extensively in developing countries. In 2015, Mr. Kaminski spent 9 months in Latin America working with local governments to develop earthquake-resistant infrastructure. On March 22, 2016, Mr. Kaminski hosted a presentation for Mano a Mano Bolivia's architect and engineer and offered economical suggestions for how the existing plans could be modified to make them more earthquake-resistant. Mr. Kaminski's comments focused on the current construction but were general enough that Mano a Mano Bolivia can apply these strategies to future construction projects. Mano a Mano Bolivia is currently reviewing Mr. Kaminski's comments and evaluating how they can incorporate his advice into the plans for Tunas Pampa.
We are more than half-way towards our total fundraising goal for this project, but we still need your support. Please continue to donate through GlobalGiving and share the news about our project with your friends and family. As always, we are extremely grateful for all of your support for Mano a Mano Bolivia!
