Dear Mann Deshi Supporters,
Mann Taluka is witnessing unprecedented drought. Due to the non-availability of fodder and water, the number of animals dead is unprecedented and has to be sold cheaply to butchers. For the last 2 years, there has been no rain in Mann Taluka. Today, people are migrating from Mann Taluka, not in search of employment but in search of drinking water.
In such a situation, the Mann Deshi Foundation felt a responsibility to serve the local community. To help, the foundation started a Cattle camp, providing water and fodder to animals in the Mhaswad village on 21st April, 2012. There were 12,936 animals as on 20st sept., 2012 in the cattle camp from 52 villages, current number is +3000. Mann Deshi farmers have been living in the cattle camp for the last six months.
Mann Deshi Foundation & Mann Deshi Bank operates in Satara district & Karanataka district of Maharashtra. Mann Deshi runs business school for rural women, community radio & chamber of commerce. Mann Deshi has been reached to +155000 clients. Because of drought Mann Deshi Foundation started focusing on water issues.
In 2012, Mann Deshi Foundation rejuvenated existing 12 Bandharas by removing dirt with the cooperation of respected collector, Satara. This has resulted to store at least little water in the Bandharas. Mann Deshi Foundation has started constructing cement concrete Bandharas through a chain system for drinking water in Mhaswad. It will recharge the water level in area and also solve the drinking water problem.
