Dear Donors,
Thanks to your incredible generosity, the Bedzsmith Foundation International Inc. has made remarkable
strides over the past three months in restoring the vital ecosystem of the Keta/Anlo Wetland Ramsar
site. Since our last update, our teams have successfully cultivated and transferred over 1000 native red,
white, and black mangrove seedlings from our community nurseries directly into degraded tidal zones.
Beyond stabilizing the coastline and rebuilding critical fish nurseries, this quarter focused heavily on
sustainable economic transitions. We are also on the path of establishing our first cohort of sustainable
community honey production units, delivering and installing modern beehives among local families to
generate eco-friendly income that removes the economic pressure to harvest mangrove wood for fuel.
Your support is directly changing lives on the ground, creating meaningful roles that give community
members a newfound sense of leadership. Meet Mawusi, a mother of three from the Atito community
who used to rely entirely on gathering periwinkles and smoking fish using scarce local wood. Through
community initiative, Mawusi was trained as a nursery coordinator, securing a stable, direct income
while learning the technical science of mangrove ecology. "For years, our fish catches were disappearing
alongside our trees," Mawusi shares. "Now, I am helping to bring the lagoon back to life for my children,
and the beehives give us a way to earn a living without cutting down our future." Mawusi is just one of
the few local participants who have received specialized technical training, alongside 7 individuals who
have transitioned into full-time equivalent green jobs through our nursery management, seed collection,
and planting initiatives.
As we look toward the next quarter, our focus will expand toward introducing the community
aquaculture component to further replenish local Tilapia populations and improve water flows across
the broader wetland system. We have attached photos below showing our work so far.
We are deeply grateful for your continued partnership as we work hand-in
hand with the coastal communities of the Keta Lagoon to build a resilient, multi-generational blue
carbon future.
With profound gratitude,
The Bedzsmith Foundation International Inc. Team
