The earliest records show that humans have lived in mangroves since prehistoric times. This Mangroves have significant value for environmental protection also. But these mighty mangroves are decreasing day by day due primarily to direct and indirect human impacts. Also, naturally driven events such as erosion, sea level rise, hurricanes and drought—exacerbated by climate change—are also leading to loss. There is no way except regenerating the mangroves.
BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) has been working for Mangroves restoration since 2013 in the south-western part of Bangladesh where the worlds single largest mangrove forest The Sundarbans is situated. As a part of community based ecological mangrove restoration till now BEDS planted more than 0.3 million of mangroves which cover almost 30 hectors of area. During this journey BEDS always ensured the active participation of local people in the mangrove restoration activity. And this initiative made a great change in the mind set of local community. BEDS also restore mangrove in the coastal embankment to protect the local community from embankment erosion as well as coastal protection.
