Why is Climate Change a Hoax?

By Shana Greene | Co-Executive Director/Village Volunteers

Why is climate change a hoax?

It isn't! The assertion that climate change is a hoax is false and contradicted by a vast body of scientific evidence representing 97 to 98% of climate scientists that the planet is warming due to human activity.

These ongoing false statements from the Trump administration target public perception that lags behind scientific understanding.  Disinformation campaigns are spread to cast doubt and delay action purely for financial reasons. The scientific evidence is overwhelming and has been collected since the mid-20th century. Since the Industrial Revolution, the Earth's temperatures have risen steadily. Levels of heat-trapping gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide are now 50% higher than preindustrial levels studied in natural ice core data over 800,000 years. Glaciers and ice sheets are shrinking worldwide, causing global sea levels to rise, increasing the frequency of extreme weather events.
That said, what can we do, short of developing technological miracles? Research into solutions in the US has also been curtailed. We will need to look to forward-thinking countries that promote green-energy, and restorative agriculture to slow the destruction of the rainforests for cattle and the methane that is produced.
We are not blinded by the hope that planting trees will restore the climate, but we can go region by region, where African farmers are the most affected by climate change. We can provide tools and hope for the farmers who own land, and support cooperative farms where they are taught climate-sensitive techniques. No, the answer is not GMO seeds that are supposedly drought-resistent or the technology promoted by companies. It's much more intuitive and in harmony with nature's patterns.
We always want to be upbeat because we appreciate you and your contributions, but when we live day after day, saddened by the corruption we witness and the cruelty that is happening to our immigrant population, we look to the positive farmers who understand the ways of the environment with a healthy respect for Mother Nature.
Thank you,
