Great Progress with the Moringa Tree Project

We thank you for helping us become a partner with GlobalGiving. With your overwhelming generosity, we have raised a total of $5,925 to date for the Moringa Tree Project!  The use and sale of the moringa tree fruit, leaves, and pods for food, cooking oil, cattle feed, and bio-fuel will foster the development of micro-enterprises in five villages in Kenya. Your support has made a significant contribution to sustainable economic development and the alleviation of malnutrition in these village communities.

The moringa trees have been planted by the Environmental Youth Action Corps (EYAC) in their nurseries and they are growing quickly.  The trees will soon be transplanted to permanent community orchards, orphan homes and schools. With the funds received we will:

  • Purchase 3,500 moringa tree seedlings from the EYAC nurseries. This amount ($3,500) will be put into the EYAC youths' scholarship funds.
  • Donate 500 seedlings to Dago Dala Hera Orphan Home.
  • Provide 1,000 seedlings to schools like Suria Aulo Academy run by Namunyak Maasai Welfare. This will ensure that school lunch programs are fortified with the nutrition derived from the leaves and pods of the tree.
  • Grant 2,000 seedlings (the equivalent of five acres of trees) to five women's groups so that they can develop micro-enterprises using the derivatives of the trees.  .
  • Distribute 8 bucket irrigation systems and 8 sets of garden tools to women's cooperatives for their orchards.
  • Build 2 rainwater catchment systems for sustaining orchards and tree nurseries.
  • Grant 4 oil presses to women's groups to engage in pressing the nutritious oil.

Now as we continue this wonderful program’s development as it grows to enrich adjacent communities, we encourage you to share this link with friends and family. If you are able, a recurring donation of even $15 a month will have a great impact on the well being of these village communities. Your contribution is truly appreciated by all involved.
