The World Health Organization maintains and continues to update a database on COVID-19 cases in Mali. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had been documented from January 3, 2020, through November 25th, 2022, there have been 32,755 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 742 confirmed deaths because of the virus in Mali. However, COVID-19 testing is not widely available in Mali, especially outside of Bamako. There are likely many more cases that have gone unaccounted for in Mali.
As for vaccine distribution, there has been an increase in administered doses since the beginning of 2022, however vaccination remains extremely low compared to other countries in Western Europe or North America. According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University of Medicine, as of November 20, 2022, there have been 3,774,979 doses administered to the Malian population. Of that number, 2,738,832 have received at least a single dose which translates to roughly 13.52% of the population.
Those most affected by COVID-19 are those who are most vulnerable, meaning that individuals who are immunocompromised due to HIV or lack access to healthcare face the highest risk. GAIA Vaccine Foundation is continuously working to remain ahead of the curve for COVID-19 prevention, including through the project: Mali Clinic Supplies to Protect Against COVID-19.
With the help of ongoing generous donations, GAIA Vaccine Foundation is looking to purchase gowns, gloves and other supplies to make sure our clinics are prepared for the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic. For only $10, you would be supplying our clinics with a box of gloves. For $25, you can provide a box of masks to Hope Center Clinic. We are grateful for your support during this unprecedented time in supporting those most vulnerable against the ongoing pandemic.
