On March 25th, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Mali. GAIA Vaccine Foundation is preparing for the outbreak alongside our partners at Hope Center Clinic. We are in need of medical supplies including masks, gowns, gloves, thermometers, and disinfectant to protect our staff and patients.
The COVID-19 virus has affected nearly everyone in ways big and small. However, it remains clear that those who will be the most affected are those most vulnerable, including women who do not have access to health care and HIV+ patients who are already immunocompromised. This is particularly true in developing countries such as Mali, which lacks the health infrastructure to handle a disease such as COVID-19 on a mass scale.
With the increase in cases of COVID-19 in Africa, GAIA hopes to be ahead of the curve in Mali. We are already working with doctors to design approaches to prevent the disease at Hope Center Clinic and provide testing. However, we need your support now more than ever to help us purchase gowns, gloves, and other supplies to prepare our clinic for what seems to be the inevitable and lethal spread of COVID-19 in Mali.
We are incredible grateful for your support during this time and recognize the importance of coming together to support those most vulnerable in the unprecedented territory of the COVID-19 pandemic.
