Stories from Malaika: Training for Social Workers

By Giulia Leone | Project Leader

A few weeks ago, Malaika organized and completed a two-day training program in collaboration with the Social Welfare office for social workers and staff from other local foster homes and daycare centers.

During the two days, the training covered critical topics such as child development, adverse childhood experiences, trauma, intervention strategies, and the importance of play. The event saw impressive participation, with nearly 100 attendees, including three VIP social services directors from the capital, Dodoma.

The program was meticulously developed and conducted in English by Emily Alston-O’Connor, a social worker and consultant and a volunteer for Malaika. Additionally, to ensure the training was accessible and effective, Nivo, the local social welfare officer, provided translation services in Swahili.

Malaika’s social worker, Lucy, and the foster home coordinator, Gladness, participated in the training by sharing concrete examples from their work experiences and actively engaging in the organization of this important event. Their contributions and testimonies were fundamental to the success of the program.

A heartfelt thank you to Emily, Lucy, Nivo and Gladness for their hard work and dedication in making this training program a success.

Please consider making a monthly donation to support Malaika's education. Donors who set up a new monthly donation to a project will have their first donation matched at 100%!
