This year, MALA Awarded over $8,000 in scholarships to 16 inspiring, thoughtful, and ambitious rising leaders across the country. Our scholarship recipients for the 2018-2019 application cycle represent a diversity of nationalities, ethnicities, and identities, and we are proud to say that the majority of recipients were women. This pool of scholarship recipients reflects MALA’s mission to empower and spotlight the stories of American Muslims of all backgrounds and identities, and we are proud to assist these brilliant individuals in their quest for higher education.
Since last year, our scholarship program has grown significantly: this year we received twice as many entries, and were able to offer scholarships to twice as many individuals as in the previous year. This growth is thanks to the generosity of the Khan Memorial Fund, the Dr. Fawaz Kannout Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the Dr. Iyengar Family Fund, as well as contributions from individual donors. As we prepare to open up applications for 2019-2020 in the Fall, we hope you will help us to continue this growth, as we strive to build resources and help secure opportunities for emerging leaders from Muslim American communities to grow and thrive.
You can find a see the complete list of 2018-2019 scholarship recipients on MALA’s website; you can read the complete essays in the Muslim American Journeys Story Collection, to learn more about the MALA Scholarship Program application, click here.
