Programming my future

By Alejandro Jimenez | Project Leader

Erick is 14 years old and he decided to take Robotics course at the RIA, one of his friends recommended it. At the MakersLab in Nezahualcóyotl Erick shares his experience:

"Thanks to the MakersLab initiative, I learned to program in the arduino language, the course gave me many options to watch and learn how to do it and I took advantage of it. The most interesting part was the assembling of the electronic circuits in the protoboards (prototyping boards). For my special project, I decided to make a robotic spider because I love these animals, so I got inspired by them; my spider could be control by cell phone which makes me feel very proud of myself".

Erick wanted to complete the robotics program at MakersLab, which consists of 4 modules of 20 hrs each one. This program motivated him to study engineering at the National Polytechnic Institute, now he enjoys creating things with movement and with the use of electronics. Before Erick´s experience, he wanted to be a military, but now he changed his mind, he discovered he has new abilities and he know he is capable to build and animate Robots; The MakersLab initiative at the RIA transformed him and opened new doors to have a better future.

Thanks to this program and the advice of his facilitator Hugo, he learned the importance of programming, in his own words: "the program is like the soul of a robot". Erick keeps developing projects but now he is using 3D printing technology.

How many lives do you think the technology is changing?

Could you keep supporting this initiative in order other teens find their own vocational as Erick did it?
