We run a program for providing poor young women with menstrual supplies and reproductive health & sex rights education, but recently we were confronted by a huge need to provide the same to deaf young women and we realized we do not have a capacity to do this, neither is there sign language videos on YouTube or Vimeo addressing this need. We want to make sign language training videos that we will screen to deaf girls at our center, give out free CDs and publish to the world on YouTube & Vimeo.
We run an award program of providing poor girls with sanitary towels, panties and sex education and sex rights in Kenya, but we lack capacity to teach the same to the deaf, even after hours of search in mega search engines like YouTube & Vimeo we lacked sign language videos that we can use to help our dear sisters who are partly or complete deaf learn about menstruation, hygiene education, sex rights & generally reproductive health education.
We seek to raise funds to develop teaching sign-language videos on menstruation & sex rights for vulnerable deaf young women in Kenya. We will not only use the videos to train our direct beneficiaries but we will upload them for free use on social sites like YouTube, this way we will benefit many deaf regionally (east Africa) who are conversant with KSL-Kenyan Sign Language. It is good to note that sign language is not universal it differs depending on language one is translating & local jargon.
''When a group of young deaf people are shown cards with different words on them. They all instantly recognise the words Facebook, Wii and YouTube, but the words syphilis, genital warts and hepatitis ABC are met with blank expressions'' this factual finding was reported by The Gurdian. We seek to produce Kenyan sign-language videos on sex education that will benefit tens of direct beneficiaries & thousands via social sites like YouTube & Vimeo. Where there is no internet we'll provide free CDs.
