Summary

This project brings the transformative "Alzheimer Cafe" concept to Ukraine, creating safe and welcoming spaces for 200 people with dementia and their caregivers in 5 cities. Through the "Nezabutni (Unforgettable) Cafes", individuals with dementia and their families enjoy regular social interactions in a stigma-free environment, reducing isolation, anxiety, and depression. We are also raising funds to support the charity's team and office, ensuring the stability needed to run these vital programs

Challenge

In Ukraine, approximately 600,000 people live with dementia, yet many lack access to the support and resources they need. Research highlights the significant emotional and social toll on caregivers and the individuals affected, compounded by stigma and a lack of public awareness. Moreover, studies have shown that war and prolonged stress can exacerbate cognitive decline in people with dementia and increase the burden on their caregivers.

Solution

This project will create safe, stigma-free spaces in 5 Ukrainian cities for around 200 individuals with dementia and their caregivers through the "Nezabutni (Unforgettable) Cafes." These gatherings will reduce isolation, anxiety, and depression, fostering social connections and providing therapeutic activities. Caregivers will gain respite and peer support, while the cafes promote public awareness and a dementia-friendly community, improving overall quality of life.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term goal of the project is to foster dementia-friendly communities across Ukraine. By reducing stigma, raising public awareness, and providing consistent support, the project aims to create sustainable social and therapeutic networks that enhance the quality of life for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. It also seeks to drive systemic change, promoting inclusive policies and practices that address the needs of those affected by dementia throughout the country.
