Between July and December 2023, Loop continued its commitment to providing a free and accessible community feedback and reporting system in Somalia. The platform's impact was amplified through strategic partnerships, fostering impactful awareness campaigns that generated focused feedback from communities.
Enhancements in accessibility included the embrace of language inclusivity, incorporating oral dialects, and the introduction of a unified, easily memorable short code (2023) across Somalia. These measures streamlined the awareness-raising process, contributing to the platform's effectiveness.
During this period, Loop successfully identified serious and urgent concerns, such as aid diversion, sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA), and gender-based violence (GBV). Despite these achievements, Loop faces substantial challenges in terms of sustainability and organizational uptake. Notably, there is a need to expand outreach to more minority groups across the country.
Only in decmeber Loop moderators hwere handling 1000s of stories every week. Many of these are poor audio quality or do not meet Loop’s community guidelines. Each staff member was moderating on average 100 stories a day. In this reporting period (July to December), Loop published 550 posts on the open platform
One prominent issue is the low response rate from organizations, with a significant 48% of sensitive reports—especially those involving corruption and general protection—remaining unacknowledged. Overcoming these challenges is crucial for Loop to further integrate into existing accountability protocols and maintain its positive impact on communities in Somalia.
