Dear All:
Well, we are off and running. Thus far, we have raised $695 of the $16,000 goal we set to fuel a major transformation of the soccer and rugby facilities at Moses Mabida Senior Secondary School (MMSSS) in rural South Africa. We even connected with one donor who is giving on a recurring basis, which is great news!
As you know from the project description, donations may well come from the Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) community, located in the eastern part of Massachusetts. Under the leadership of a proactive teacher and highly motivated student leaders, they have in the works a number of fundraising activities for this summer and fall, culminating in what we hope will be a big announcement at our Newport Gala on November 14th.
The students are creative in their brainstorming and are taking concrete steps in both Southborough and Northborough, the towns served by the regional school, to spread the word and encourage people to give.
We do not want to rely exclusively on ARHS, however, because $16,000 is a tall order for anyone. So, if you know any family and friends who are soccer and/or rugby lovers, please share the project link and nudge them to give, too.
On a related sports note at MMSSS, Universal Promise is breaking ground on two first-ever netball courts for the girls. Finally, MMSSS girls will have access to a sports facility, and this one will be a beauty.
Now, that is not to say that the boys currently have fabulous facilities. They don't. That is why we are eager to bring the boys (who predominantly play soccer and rugby) a space they deserve, just as we are bringing the girls (who predominantly play netball) a space they deserve.
So, thank you for helping us launch this effort by giving, and thank you, in advance, for sharing this link with anyone who may find a connection with our aim.
We will update you again as we amass gifts, because when we reach a certain threshold, we will give the green light to start some element of the project to spark hope and launch a joyful frenzy!
