The Lynn Sage Foundation Winter Update

By Laura and Halee Sage | Co-Founders

Hi Everyone,

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a great Holiday season.

As we look toward the end of 2012 and the beginning of a new year, we hope you will join us in our continued fight to end breast cancer.

Donations to The Lynn Sage Foundation provide funding for Lynn Sage Scholarships with a goal that the doctors we fund will be positioned to secure larger grants as a result of their two years of work as Lynn Sage Scholars. Thus far, our seed funding has been successful. Our 2007 and 2008 scholar, Dr. Jacqueline Jeruss, has recently received several prestigious grants including the National Institutes of Health Research Project Grant (R01) entitled “Measuring Signaling Pathway Dynamics During Tissue Growth and Hydrogels.”
In her 2nd year of funding, our current Lynn Sage Scholar, Dr. Cheng is continuing her diligent work at the Lurie Cancer Center at Northwestern University.  Dr. Cheng is investigating the role of alternative splicing in the development of cancer.  Alternative splicing is a process that produces many forms of proteins from a single gene.  Dr. Cheng uses cell culture and breast cancer models to explore the role of CD44 isoforms in breast tumor progression.

We could not be more proud of the innovative research being conducted on behalf of The Lynn Sage Foundation and your donation will contribute to this crucial research.

We look forward to funding our 4th Lynn Sage Scholar in the coming year and are hoping to fund at least two scholars as early as 2014.

With support of donors like you, we are committed to finding a cure for breast cancer.

Best wishes for a great holiday season,

Laura & Halee Sage
