Since Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana has suffered continued disasters, with flooding from various sources and tornadoes. This state has not completely recovered from Katrina and the same areas recently have been devastated with flooding and tornadoes. Do Your Part has been involved in the recovery efforts of these disasters. Much is needed, especially the support of the community. Every disaster is different but the needs are the same, support, shelter, food, water and caring.
During flooding or tornado peoples homes are destroyed. Residents have rushed to safety or had to be rescued. Survivors are always in need of shelter, food, clothes, bedding, baby supplies, and children are needing school supplies when they return to school. Many homes are destroyed during these disasters and this takes many volunteers, along with the families and many supplies for cleaning and sustaining. This is a huge undertaking.
This project brings together the many volunteers and supplies needed to begin the process of bringing all of these people back to some sense of normalcy; it also supplies the families with many of their needs from food, clothing, and so many other needed items to sustain these resilient people. This much devastation cannot be solved by one project alone, but it starts the process and with the help of others will continue until the work is done.
The long-term effect of this project is to take some of the strain off these families so they can deal with each other and to assist in making the community and its people whole again sooner than later. Do Your Part is dedicated to bringing support to the Survivors from short term relief to long term case management as Louisiana works towards recovery.
