Safe Haven for Domestic Survivors

By Geoffrey Mulenga | Project Leader

Project Report: Lotus School – Safe Haven for Domestic Survivors (61088)
Report Date: August 12, 2024

Project Summary:
Since our last update, Lotus School has continued its mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children who have survived domestic violence. Over the past three months, we have focused on both expanding our educational programs and enhancing the support services available to these vulnerable students.

Impact Story:
Meet Anna (name changed for privacy), a 10-year-old girl who arrived at Lotus School earlier this year. When she first joined us, Anna was withdrawn and struggling academically due to the trauma she had endured. Thanks to the individualized attention and counseling she received, Anna has made remarkable progress. She is now excelling in her studies, particularly in mathematics, and has become a role model for her peers. Anna’s transformation is a testament to the positive impact of a supportive and understanding environment.

Activities & Achievements:

  • Counseling Services: We have provided over 200 hours of counseling to students, helping them cope with their experiences and build resilience.
  • Educational Programs: Our students participated in a new after-school tutoring program, which has led to a 20% improvement in their overall academic performance.
  • Community Workshops: We organized three workshops for parents and guardians, focusing on the importance of a supportive home environment and how to recognize signs of distress in children.

Looking Ahead:
As we continue our work, we are preparing for the next phase of our project: expanding our facilities to accommodate more students and launching a vocational training program for older children. This will equip them with the skills they need to build a better future for themselves.

We are deeply grateful for your ongoing support, which makes all of this possible. Together, we are providing not just an education, but a lifeline to children who need it most.
