Support for the elderly continued this month since their needs are overwhelming. They lack essential support to mitigate their inability to eke out a living due to age factor.
Stephen, a 74 years old man approached Equal Africa due to suffering from incessant high blood pressure that had taken a toll on his health. He was looking very frail, weak, and in very bad shape.
Equal Africa through the help of local donors was able to include Stephen among her beneficiaries; who we continue to sponsor for their regular medical treatment and medication due to their long-term medical conditions. A doctor treated him and conducted medical tests that indicated his blood pressure was very high. He was treated and also given prescribed medication to help regulate his blood pressure.
Stephen is now receiving regular medical check-ups and medication all sponsored by Equal Africa beginning October 2015.
Results indicate that he is fairing on extremely well, his blood pressure level has gone back to normal, and is grateful to the donors for the timely and invaluable support; without which his life would have been in danger.
It is sad that though he is among those listed as beneficiaries of National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) scheme, the medical scheme remains inaccessible to him.
The Ministry of Labour also documented his details and photograph in year 2009 as a beneficiary of monthly cash-transfer (meant for elderly persons), though Stephen has never received any money under that government cash-transfer programme.
Stephen can now live a normal life due to the help that he is continuing to receive from Equal Africa. This would not have been possible were it not for the generous support of local donors.
We therefore on behalf of the elderly people give gratitude to the local donors who have continued to give support to the very needy and vulnerable persons through our organisation.
