This project builds economic resilience for 300 mothers of children with disabilities in Turkana. Facing severe barriers to traditional work due to intensive caregiving, these women will be equipped with flexible, sustainable livelihood opportunities, financial literacy, and inclusive business tools . By fostering self-reliance., livelihoods and targeted income generation, the initiative secures stable household finances and creates vital safety nets, ensuring the vulnerable families can thrive.

Challenge

Mothers of children with disabilities in Turkana face a sever economic trap. The intense, round-the-clock demands of caregiving make traditional, rigid employment impossible, isolating these women and cutting off their earning potential. Compounded by deep systemic stigma, severe climate shocks, and a lack of financial tools, these households are forced into extreme vulnerability, struggling daily to afford basic nutrition, medical care, and specialized support for their children.

Solution

This project helps mothers earn money safely from home while caring for their children. By forming registered self-help groups, they run small businesses, build sustainable income, and gain legal status to access government backing like the Women Enterprise Fund (WEF). This reliable financial access empowers them to grow ventures, achieve economic stability, and afford essential healthcare, specialized therapy, and proper nutrition, ensuring a secure future for their children and food securirty.

Long-Term Impact

Over time, 300 mothers achieve lasting economic empowerment and complete financial independence, permanently breaking the cycle of poverty. Through thriving, resilient home-based livelihoods, these women secure stable incomes that guarantee household food security and robust nutrition. This supports the financial freedom ensures they can consistently afford essential healthcare and specialized therapy for their children. Ultimately, it reshapes community mindsets reducing deep-rooted stigma.
