Chemistry Lab, Water Filter System and Solar Energy
Parents's Roles are Important and Appreciated
It is great when some things are made mandatory at schools. At first we thought "oh no - not another construction that must be done on a long list of musts" - but what better way for children to understand the world that we are living in than in subjects such as Chemistry?
It has become more and more difficult to raise funds for the necessities of running a school from kindergarten to 8th grade. Between the government throwing stones in our paths - the wars going on in the world causing so many horrors - it is understandable. But nevertheless - musts are musts and we do our best to make them happen. Through a very generous donation, we were able to turn one of our classrooms into a chemistry lab. It is our goal to give the Live and Learn in Kenya School students everything that they need to be as well educated as the children coming from well-to-do families. So far it's working!
After receiving a wonderful donation to build a well which is pumped with solar energy last year the flow of water was a dream come true. Finally - water in abundance! But then the drought came and the water was no longer pure drinking water! Months of having water, but not being able to use it - and once again having to buy water and have it delivered to us was heartbreaking. Then a small - or actually huge - miracle happened and the same company that had paid for the well to be built celebrated its senior boss's birthday with a huge celebration asking guests to donate towards a water filter system for the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center! The event for the same reason from the internet platform Second Life - at the Lavender was organized by BB and Brique topped it off. The donations flowed in - and we were able to have the construction built to house the new water filter system. Now the water is so pure that even we Westerners can drink it as it has the same purity as bottled water.
WATER IS LIFE!
The price of electricity has gone up - all over the world - but in countries where the poorest of poor have little or no access to it, the price to be paid is ridiculous.
Why should we be paying enormous amounts of donated money to be paying for what comes directly from the sky hours and hours a day? That was when we decided to use the God-given solar energy to keep everything going at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center. After just a few phone calls and messages - voila - the daughter of her deceased - former teacher - father decided to use a good part of her inheritance for the project - and a German Lions Club agreed to donate the rest needed. The plans are made up and the panels will be installed within the next weeks. Yes, miracles do happen!
We are so happy about the developments at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center. But of course, it doesn't end there...! Our next project is raising funds for the mandatory Home Economics Classroom. More on that when the donations come rolling in. :)
ASANTE SANA - thank you so very much!
