This project will build a support network of alternative actors to support women with low educational levels who are living in violent circumstances. This support network will be trained to provide proper emotional support to women who are victims of violence and will be trained to mitigate the factors that contribute to victims not reporting their experiences or asking for help.
In Mexico, 88.4% of women do not report the violence that they experience. The reasons why women do not report or ask for help with experiences of violence are varied and change according to the level of a woman's education. Women with less education do not report or ask for support because of the normalization of violence, ignorance, and shame. The less education a woman has completed, the more difficult it becomes for her to escape the factors that hold her back from asking for help.
Our project aims to train alternative actors, workplaces where women with low levels of education are both customers and employees, to mitigate the factors that prevent women who are victims of gender based violence from reporting their experiences and/or asking for help. We will also train non-traditional actors to provide proper emotional support to women who are victims of violence.
By training alternative actors to attend to cases of violence against women, we are creating a type of support network that has never existed before. Those who are part of the network will understand their role and the specific activities they must carry out to address the reasons why women don't look for help when they experience violence. We envision the emergence of a coordinated system of care comprised of alternative actors able to support women who are victims of violence.
