We believe that literacy provides freedom for expression and creativity to teachers, students and the whole community.
In El Salvador, public school teachers lack opportunities for authentic and meaningful professional development that prepares them to meet the social emotional needs of their students.
ConTextos' Annual Teachers Conference is the pinnacle of our on-going professional development with teachers throughout the year, a unique experience for teachers to come together and engage with their peers. Each year at the Conference, teachers learn from experts who reinforce and introduce new ideas about the power of literacy for the future of their students. By improving their literacy instruction based on best practices, teachers foster the freedom of creative expression in their students.
We know that investing in just one teacher can make a difference in the lives of many children. In our public school system, a teacher receives 30 students per year in their classroom and the same teacher typically has a career of at least 20 years. This means 600 students will be instructed in this time span by a single teacher. We have more than 1,200 teachers in our network who participate in professional development like the Teachers Congress throughout the year.
