By Pushker Kadel | Director, Language Development Centre Nepal
We are delighted to share our progress reports. We are able to serve Limbu communities partnering with government and non-government organizations through literacy in Limbu, multilingual education in primary schools, training to weave Dhaka and Khesh cloth, awareness workshops on indigenous rights and language issues and planting citrus seedlings.
The Limbu project enabled 100 Limbu women to become literate in Limbu and train 15 Limbu women to weave Dhaka and Khesh cloth, which is then sold to provide additional income for the participants. Thirty Limbu families planted 1000 Orange and Lemon seedlings for business purpose with the help of local Agriculture Service Centre. The Limbu Project staff is finalizing a Limbu folk stories and songs book.
Our local partner, Limbu Language Development Association was invited by the District Education Office, Panchthar to run literacy campaign for 829 illiterate participants in Ranigaun Village Development Committee however a lack of funding to ensure the program would be successful prevented them from taking up this offer.
