Light Up Their Path: Autism Youth Career Experienc

Thank you for your continued support of the “Light Up Their Path: Autism Youth Career Experience” project. In the third quarter, we successfully carried out a new round of career readiness training tailored for young people with autism or intellectual disabilities (all names used in previous and future reports are pseudonyms). This quarter’s programme included 3 participants, making it a small but more personalised “mini edition” of the training camp.

This quarter’s training focused on the theme of “getting along and working together.” Research and practical experience show that the biggest obstacles faced by youth with intellectual disabilities in employment are not technical skills, but challenges related to social understanding, emotional regulation, communication, and collaboration. To address these needs, we designed a more focused, structured curriculum to help participants develop greater stability and confidence in future workplace environments.

The 6day training was delivered by professional instructors at the Inclusion Factory. Although the group was small, the format allowed for highly individualised support. The programme combined structured routines with interactive discussions, scenario simulations, group tasks, and gamebased learning. Participants practiced interpreting others’ intentions, setting personal boundaries, following social etiquette, collaborating in teams, expressing their needs, and seeking help when necessary.

Since the production workload at the Inclusion Factory workshop was relatively light in Q3, we were able to arrange more opportunities for participants to enter the real workplace for handson experience. Under the guidance of their trainers, the three participants completed a series of simple yet connected work tasks and gradually adapted to the pace of the workshop. Their focus, willingness to try new tasks, and improving teamwork skills were encouraging for the entire training team.

This mini training camp helped the participants not only learn “how to perform tasks,” but also “how to interact with others and become part of a team.” These soft skills—often overlooked in traditional training—are essential foundations for future job seeking, workplace adaptation, and longterm employment.

We will continue to refine our programme and provide more practical and diverse support for autistic youth as they move toward greater independence.
