Dear Donors,
Thank you for your interest in the Light Up 10 Rural Hospitals with Solar Streetlights project. We are grateful to everyone who believes that access to healthcare should not become more dangerous when the sun goes down.
Many rural health facilities continue to operate in darkness at night due to unreliable electricity and the absence of outdoor lighting. Patients arriving for emergency treatment often struggle to find their way through unlit compounds, while healthcare workers must move between wards, maternity units, and other buildings with limited visibility. These conditions create unnecessary risks for everyone who depends on these facilities.
At present, no funding has been secured to begin this project. As a result, installation of the proposed solar streetlights has not yet commenced.
The project seeks to improve safety and visibility around ten rural hospitals by installing solar-powered streetlights in key locations, including entrances, walkways, wards, maternity units, and surrounding access roads. Reliable lighting can make a significant difference during nighttime emergencies, helping both patients and healthcare workers move safely around hospital premises.
Poor lighting also exposes hospital grounds to security concerns and environmental hazards. In many rural areas, patients and visitors must navigate dark pathways where falls, injuries, animal encounters, and other dangers become more likely after sunset.
Although implementation has not started, we remain committed to this initiative and continue seeking support to make it possible. Accessing healthcare at night should not require patients and health workers to face avoidable dangers simply because there is no light.
Thank you for standing with rural communities where safer healthcare environments remain an urgent need. We hope to share future updates as progress is made toward launching this project.
Warm regards,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
