According to a recent World Food Programme article about 1 in four people Central African Republic had been in urgent need of food assistance due to the disruptions in their lives from the conflict that broke out two years ago, and tensions that continue today. We know that often children are the most vulnerable population in conflict zones and that our products are an essential tool in making sure that they do not fall into the depths of malnutrition in the midst of violence.
With your generous support in 2014, you helped us send 57,500 cartons of Plumpy'Sup to the Central African Republic or Cameroon (to help meet the needs of malnourished children from CAR living in refugee camps). That amount is enough to treat approximately 143,750 children. We also shipped about 7,776 cartons of Plumpy'Nut, enough to bring about 8,000 severely malnourished children back to life and good health in about 7 weeks. This year another 8,000 boxes of Plumpy'Nut were shipped at the end of January and another 7,000 boxes in March and April.
As funding this project comes to a close for us at Edesia we remain committed to continuing to reach as many children as we can with our products, and the United Nations has committed new resources to help the hundreds of thousands of internally displaced citizens and those displaced by the conflict to surrounding countries return to their homes voluntarily over time.
We would like to thank you for your support and generosity in helping to nourish the children of the Central African Republic. We could not do what we do without your help.
We hope you will continue to be a play a part in Edesia's efforts to prevent and treat malnutrition by following our current projects.
Thank you.
