Fire Rehabilitation Efforts
On January 11, 2015, a deadly fire ravaged through a slum cluster right next to the Spreeha field areas in Bangladesh. This devastating fire claimed the lives of two children and gutted several homes, rendering more than one thousand people homeless. Beginning by providing immediate medical assistance, Spreeha has since been working with these families to help with relief and rehabilitation.
Families affected by the fire had their meager possessions reduced to ashes. Spreeha staff quickly evaluated the extent of the damage and started executing on a rehabilitation plan.
Spreeha provided immediate first response aid to almost a thousand victims. Additionally, it gave comprehensive long term medical treatment from it's clinic in the area to many of those who suffered.
Among the affected families, nine were identified as part of the Spreeha healthcare and education systems. Spreeha has provided comprehensive rehabilitation to each of these families. The complete list of items, including a month’s rent in advance, were distributed to these families in two batches on February 5th and 7th.
Spreeha’s aid efforts will have to continue, and it aims to focus strongly on creating training programs for slum residents addressing safety issues, and putting in place measures to prevent, and in the worst cases, control fires.
