Dear friends,

On behalf of Vacha Charitable Trust, I am writing to you again in 2 weeks because of the giving season on GG that begins on Nov. 29, the Giving Tuesday, and continues for a month after that till after the Christmas. All of us, the Vacha Team and the girl beneficiaries appeal to you to donate generously so that the programme of girls’ empowerment can be followed even more vigorously. All of us are truly grateful for the support you have voluntarily extended.

Your generosity has gone a long way in our reaching out to girls living in poor hutment colonies, the slums. The families have migrated to Mumbai in search of livelihoods. They valiantly try to educate their children but even there is a strong son preference. The schools that poor students attend leave most of them without academic and other skills so the cycle of poverty continues. Vacha runs centers in their neighborhoods and imparts skills such as like spoken English, computer use, camera work, art and craft, publishing newsletters and so on. Field trips and health, career guidance and more are organized for participatory learning.  They learn to speak to local leadership on issues they are concerned about, acquire leadership traits and become change agents in their own areas by working for clean public toilets, drives against polio, action to prevent sexual harassment etc.  Access is given to some of these resources to boys and gender sensitization activities are undertaken so that they too support girls’ empowerment.  Please do visit our website www.vacha.org.in  for more details and annual reports.

We are participating in the Year End campaign focusing on increasing recurring monthly donations. We will benefit immensely, not just in bonus funds but also in getting and maintaining a high status on GlobalGiving to qualify for getting other opportunities. With best wishes and thanks,

Sonal Shukla and Yagna Parmar
