This project furthers Zindagi Trust's commitment to creating a holistic and contextually relevant life skill-based curriculum at both our adopted schools and all across Pakistan. The programme involves teacher training, contextually relevant resource-building materials for teachers and students, and engaging activities for students. The program aims to impact 3200 girls empowering them with skills to deal with the challenges of daily life and to normalize LSBE in schools nationwide via advocacy.
In Pakistan, child abuse cases have been on the rise, with an average of over 12 incidents per day as reported in 2022 (Sahil organization, 2022). Due to the social stigma around LSBE, no contextually relevant resource material exists and children lack the necessary knowledge to address abusive behaviors. Public school curricula and teachers are ill-equipped to teach life skills which are essential for students to navigate their professional and ordinary lives successfully.
Zindagi Trust is developing a holistic and contextually relevant curriculum for Life Skills Based Education (LSBE) to execute at our two public schools in Karachi. Alongside safe touch, the curriculum empowers and protects children with a diverse range of essential life skills such as child rights, financial literacy, interpersonal skills and digital safety. The project aims to provide quality LSBE education via various pedagogical methods that equip students to navigate complex life situations.
The project aims to achieve vital educational reform in the public sector. It impacts 3200 girls enrolled at our schools and 5 designated via teacher training. It also addresses the lack of resource availability by creating workbooks, resource packs and audio-visual aids. With the desired learning outcomes students are empowered with skills and attitudes allowing them to adopt safe behaviours and dismantle societal taboos. With advocacy & policy-level change, we aim to implement LSBE nationwide.
