When missile sirens sound in Modi'in, preschool children with disabilities have only 90 seconds to reach safety. The Chimes Or Early Childhood Center has no on-site shelter. Staff must carry children with mobility challenges outside and across the property to a distant synagogue shelter. This project will build protected spaces directly outside the classrooms, providing immediate, life-saving protection for 40 vulnerable children and the professionals who care for them.
When missile sirens sound in Modi'in, preschool children with disabilities at Chimes Israel's Or Early Childhood Center have only 90 seconds to reach safety. Yet the center has no on-site shelter. Staff must take children outside, down many stairs, and into a synagogue shelter that can take up to five minutes to reach. Many children use wheelchairs, walkers, or other therapeutic equipment and cannot move quickly during an emergency, leaving them at risk during missile attacks.
This project will build protected shelter spaces directly outside the classrooms at Chimes Israel's Or Early Childhood Center in Modi'in. Instead of attempting to move children to a distant shelter, staff will be able to bring them to safety within seconds. The shelters will be fully accessible and designed for young children with disabilities, providing immediate, life-saving protection for up to 40 preschool children and the professionals who care for them.
The shelter will protect all preschool children with disabilities who attend the Chimes Or Early Childhood Center. It will allow children and staff to reach safety immediately during missile attacks, reduce fear and disruption, and enable the center to continue providing essential therapies and care during security emergencies. By creating a safer environment, the project will strengthen stability for children and families while preserving critical services for future generations.
