Happy new year. We hope the new year is treating you well so far!
We are super glad and privileged to have you as part of our network and support system this year. 2022 was quite a productive year for Life Lifters Kenya. We not only streamlined our processes by acquiring a 501 C status in Kenya but also fundraised over USD 9000 to support our programs. Although our organization faced a myriad of setbacks we successfully supported 12 rural teenage girls through school implemented strategic campaigns and participated in an international conference organized by She’s the First in Nairobi Kenya. Each of the scholars we supported in 2022 received tuition and basic shopping support from Life Lifters Kenya that enabled them to continue to pursue their secondary school education.
At Life Lifters Kenya we are very intentional about ensuring more rural girls in Kenya have access to quality education. We eliminate barriers that exclude rural girls in Kenya from accessing quality education and other productive resources. Our programs are targeting at increasing secondary school transition and graduation rates among rural and impoverished girls, reducing teenage pregnancy and child marriage rates and increasing rural girls access to economic opportunities. We actively operate in 5 counties in Kenya i.e Nandi, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma and Turkana county. In each of these counties we hope to reach the poorest of poor girls and invest resources in them as means of lifting them from poverty.
Although each of these counties has unique problems that impact girls, the unifying factor is that these counties are characterized with high teenage pregnancy rates, high school dropout rates and alarming cases of child marriage. Kakamega county, for instance, records an average of 12,900 teenage pregnancy cases every year. Nandi county on the other hand recorded 6,000 plus cases of teenage pregnancy in 2020 alone and Uasin Gishu has the second highest teenage pregnancy rates in the entire country. Life Lifters Kenya is intentional about educating and equipping rural girls with skills that help protect them from these vices. We are grateful that we get to do this with support from both our local and international stakeholders and cannot wait to scale our impact to reach at least 1000 teenage girls by 2025!
