Introduction
The project proposed to Global Giving was to support 25 schools with 100 new storybooks, 40 of which would be purchased with the funds raised on Global Giving. The 25 schools are extremely under-resourced and located in rural areas of the North West Province of South Africa. Thanks to the amazing donors on the Global Giving platform, Biblionef have received $2, 770.64 for this project. This funding will enable us to support 14 of the 25 proposed schools. As Biblionef are still receiving donations for this project, we will increase the amount of schools that we’re able to support.
Below is our interim report on the funds received to date (12 April 2017) and how it will be used to implement the project. Biblionef will provide you with a final report after we have carried out the full project. If we are unable to raise the additional funds to support the remaining 10 schools, we commit to still providing each school with 60 Setswana storybooks from our own book stock.
Project Implementation
A Project Assistant has been assigned to this project to ensure that it is implemented correctly. Setswana storybooks i will be selected for the 14 schools from Biblionef’s existing book stock . With the funds raised from Global Giving, an additional 560 English storybooks will be sourced and purchased for these 14 schools. Biblionef will ensure that all the books are relevant for an African child. The books will then be packed and couriered to each of the schools.
The Principals and teachers of the 14 schools were very excited when they heard that they will be receiving a new donation of storybooks! The teachers at the schools are eager to begin using the books for both storytelling and into their current curriculum.
Approximately 11, 423 children will be the direct beneficiaries of this project. The secondary beneficiaries are those children that start at the schools at the beginning of each year.
Conclusion
The funds raised through Global Giving will allow Biblionef the opportunity of providing thousands of children with beautifully illustrated books that contains stories they can relate to. The children will have access to new storybooks in their own language and the opportunity to develop their imagination, fantasy and literacy.
