With your help, 25 schools in rural areas of South Africa will receive a total of 100 new books. We were made aware of how poorly stocked the libraries were. Currently, there are trained youth placed in the libraries, however, there very few books that can be issued and book budgets are non-existent. With your support, we can change this. Biblionef would like to donate 100 books, but can only supply 60 from our book bank. We need your help to purchase the additional 40 books for the 25 schools.
The libraries of the 25 schools do not have sufficient books for lending and the majority of their current stock are tattered and outdated. The libraries need to be revived with new and appropriate books that appeal to the children. We have also been informed that the literacy levels of these rural schools are low and this donation, coupled with a motivated librarian will drastically improve this. In addition the teachers can have access to wonderful new books to use as teaching support.
This project will provide a crucial injection of high quality, home language storybooks to 25 school libraries. Each school will receive 100 new books in the children's mother-tongue of Setswana. Biblionef can, however, only provide 60 Setswana books from our book bank. The funds raised with this campaign will enable Biblionef to purchase the additional books for each of the 25 schools. Schools can receive further donations after adequately reporting on the use of the books.
Approximately 15,000 children will benefit from this project. The long-term impact of this donation will be seen when coupled with the librarian's efforts. The children will become life-long readers who can think for themselves resulting in a society where everyone is literate. Teachers will have quality resources to teach reading and as a result, children's literacy levels will improve. Storytelling and reading-aloud activities will foster a love for reading.
