As TEGV, we thank the GlobalGiving community for the support it has given thus far to our Library Project. With the goal of creating Reading Cultures, this project aims to build three children’s library spaces in remote areas of Turkey, where children otherwise have no, or very limited, access to similar resources. In addition to providing resources, TEGV uses these spaces to create programming meant to inspire children’s love for and ability in reading.
Especially in these difficult times for Turkey, and particularly for such communities as the three we are targeting in this project, creating these library spaces and bringing them alive with programming is a much-needed source of joy and hope.
With the first $1100 of donations received through GlobalGiving, we were able to purchase some amount of books, desks and chairs for our Siirt Kurtalan location. Beyond the excitement of receiving these things, the children were moved by the fact that these purchases had been made possible by donations from around the world. It moved them to know that people cared enough to invest in them and their futures.
Since our last report, we have received $365 in new donations, for a total of $2645 thus far. It has been a slow period for donations, so please share our project with your family and friends. With a few thousand dollars more of donations, we will be able to completely set up the Siirt Kurtalan space.
We thank all of you for your support and hope that in the next report we will have more to share.
