Help defend and protect LGBTQIA rights in Tanzania

Current political situation

Yesterday the Mister for information and communication made a statement that indicates a new crack down on LGBT+ community with threats of taking legal action against anyone who posts or shares contents that promote homosexuality on social media, and this reminds that the Crackdown on LGBT+ is not over but taking a new shape. Due to this obstacle we are forced to reduce the use of social media especially sharing of photos to avoid harassment by law enforcers.

The LGBT+ community in Tanzania continually faces significant challenges especially interacting with the law enforcers. Because homosexuality is criminalized, the law enforcers harass and demean LGBT people with impunity.

Without justice, there is no diversity because marginalized folks won't feel safe, and without justice there is no sense of inclusion because marginalized folks won't feel valued.

Our projects:

Our volunteers and lawyers on the ground are working hard to ensure there is no LGBT+ person who will suffer violence based on sex orientation and gender identity, including physical and sexual abuse which is widely used to intimidate, oppress, silence and subjugate LGBT+ people across the country.

We have also partnered with data experts and introduced a new project called Data and Advocacy Programme: The project will have two phases;

1. From September 1, 2022 - December 15, 2022;  Our Data expert will  be equipping our 33 identified advocates (activists) with data skills through in-person training in data collection, analysis, visualization and storytelling.
2. The implementation of Data and Advocacy Project will commence January 10, 2023- December 31, 2023. During this period our  Data experts  will be providing support to 33 trained LGBT+ rights activists to harness the power of data to forge real change and lasting impact;

The implementation strategy and plan will be shared in the January report and updates via emails.

Current needs:

1. Organizational running expenses:

a) Office space rent from September 1, 2022 - December 31, 2022.

b) Water and electricity bills October 31, 2022 -December 31,2022.

@ $120 x 3 months = $360

d) Telephone and internet from September 30, 2022- December 31, 2022

@ $ 150 x 3 months =$450

e) Legal fees (lawyer) from September 30,222- December 31, 2022

@ $1,000 x3 months = $3,000

Special Appeal

Due to the fact that LGBT Voice Tanzania doesn’t have any strategic partner, we only depend on your online donations and in most cases we do not reach our fundraising goal for every month.  We only raised $750 in the last 2 months.
