Several months have passed since the tragic floods in Poland. Cities and villages in the south of the country are still suffering from the effects of the disaster. The Universal Reading Foundation is still working to help them.
We are accepting applications from places that need help with rebuilding their book collections. The problem for many preschools, schools, libraries and day care centers is still the lack of the most needed textbooks and books.
Facing their needs, we have been running the “Let's help flood victims regain stability” campaign for 3 months. We have already acquired 3,000 books for children and adults, which we have distributed to almost 40 locations. This helps to rebuild their sense of stability and return to the normal life. The therapeutic role of books in coping with crisis situations, working through trauma and builidng mental resilience has been confirmed by numerous studies.
Many flood-affected buildings are in the process of being rebuilt or renovated and preparing spaces to be reused. Such extensive damages require long-term support, which we want to provide them with.
We are counting on your help in raising funds to acquire more books that will go to those in the greatest need. That way we can give them the access to essential resources, as well as the chance to participate in the book culture.
