Report (September, October and November, 2015)
During the months of September, October and November of 2015, Childhood Cancer Fund Rugute successfully carried out a number of continuous projects and activities.
Fund Rugute continues to provide financial support to families with children that have been diagnosed with oncological diseases. During the last three months, Fund provided monthly and non-recurring charity of 3,100.00 Eur to such families. The families used this money to purchase necessary medical care supplies, medications and food products, were able to cover their travelling expenses.
The Fund helps to purchase specific medications that are needed for individual childhood cancer patients. Some of these medications are not covered by the Government, and some are not supplied in Lithuania. In order to administer new treatment schemes that have never been administered in Lithuania before, hospitals need to purchase advanced antitumor drugs that are successfully used to treat oncology patients in foreign countries. During the last three months, Fund helped to purchase antitumor medicine for 5,081.57 Eur.
Fund also covered 1,050.00 Eur of rehabilitation expenses for one cancer patient, Gabija J. The girl was able to continue her rehabilitation that has had a very positive effect on her treatment.
Rugute used some of its funds to purchase 4 long-term central venous catheters for 1,263.24 Eur. These modern catheters help to improve psychological well-being of the little patients, because they allow them to avoid pain and multiple peripheral catheter insertion procedures.
Upon request of the physician of Oncohaematology Center of Vilnius Children’s Hospital, Fund helped one little cancer patient, Alina, and her mother travel to Würzburg University Clinic, where the girl was supposed to undergo a tumor resection surgery. Fund covered all of the travelling, accommodation and catering expenses for 2,449.56 Eur.
After five years, fund Rugute was once again invited to participate in the impressive Swedish event, called Feast of Joy. On the 5th of September, 14 families hurried to Vilnius airport where a private jet was about to take them to Sweden, the town of Kristianstad. Participating in the Feast of Joy gave unforgettable impressions and lots of entertaining activities to Lithuanian children with oncological diseases.
On the 3rd–10th of October, 5 children (Indre, Liepa, Emilija, Domantas and Alanas) and their family members spent wonderful time in the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. During their visit, the children enjoyed warm seawater, had fun at the outdoor aqua-park, visited the amazing Palma Aquarium and the caves of Campanet, admired the oldtowns of Palma and Alcudia and enjoyed delicious meals every day.
Rugute continues to maintain its premises called Rugute’s Home. Children and their families are welcome to come and stay there, whenever they might need it.
On the 29th of November, Rugute celebrated its 11th birthday. In order to commemorate this occasion, we invited everybody to the involuntary blood drive Share a Droplet. More than 30 donors donated their blood in the cozy atmosphere of Rugute’s home.
