Let's Help More Than 100 Children with Cancer

The past three months have brought some of the most difficult moments experienced in recent years. In Lithuania’s pediatric oncology and hematology centers, new cancer diagnoses were heard almost every day. These are the moments when a family’s world is suddenly turned upside down, and plans for the future are replaced by fear, uncertainty, and the reality of a long treatment journey ahead. During these challenging times, when families feel as though the ground has disappeared beneath their feet, your support becomes a source of strength that helps them endure the hardships and move forward.

As the number of young patients continues to grow, so do the medical needs we encounter every day. Among them, the most urgent and critical is access to essential medications. In many cases, a child’s chance of successful treatment—and sometimes even survival—may depend on receiving the right medicine at the right time. When doctors turn to our Fund seeking help for their patients, we are often faced with a difficult reality: the medications they need may not be covered by the public healthcare system, and in some cases they are not even registered or available in Lithuania.

For this reason, we are incredibly grateful to the GlobalGiving community for the USD 4,554.25 donated between March and May. Your generosity allows us to act immediately when children need life-saving medications, additional diagnostic tests, or other urgent medical assistance.

During this three-month period alone, the Childhood Cancer Fund RUGUTE spent more than EUR 57,000 on non-reimbursed medications. Behind every box of medicine and every capsule is a child’s wish — a child who wants to grow up, return to school or kindergarten, play with friends, and fall asleep at night wrapped in his mother’s embrace after hearing her say, “Good night.” Sometimes, a single box of medicine delivered on time becomes far more than just medication. It becomes hope for tomorrow.
